What’s developing is a very clear-cut test in delayed gratification, in which those willing to wait to watch a movie will pay a fraction of the amount paid by those who can’t.
They want consumers to spend more. When there’s an economic slowdown, I read that a solution is for consumers to spend more–to stimulate the economy. But what are the spendings of the rest of us compared to the minority that hold all the wealth?
Now, I want to be clear. I am not some looter who thinks that the wealthy have some sort of charitable obligation to bail the rest of us out of this crisis. Regardless of whether they have earned their wealth, I have not earned their wealth. But I am pretty sure that they’re not spending. Because if they were, there’d be no need to call on the rest of us, who’s money amounts to nothing compared to theirs. I feel I should follow their lead–if I ever want to be wealthy–and keep my money to myself.
